Frederick Keys Mystery Balls

For the second straight year, fans will have an opportuntiy to purchase mystery signed baseballs on Thursday, April 9 starting at 6pm. when the Frederick Keys kickoff their 2015 season against the Winston-Salem Dash. Baseballs are $10 each and are autographed by members of the Keys and Baltimore Orioles as well as other sports and entertainment stars. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Joel A. Stephens Memorial Fund, also known as Frederick Keys Care.

Keys Care was established in 1999 and supports nonprofit organizations which provide direct services to youth and young adults in Frederick County. In the past, Keys Care has awarded grants to Project Alive, Heartly House, Lead4Life, Frederick National Little League and our local boys and girls club. The fund was created in honor of former Orioles minor leaguer, Joel Stephens, who died in 1998 at age 22.

This year, more than 80 baseballs are availible for purchase and have been signed by different players and teams from across the MLB, MiLB, NHL, NASCAR and college ranks. Those who have signed the baseballs include: Adam Jones, Zach Britton, Manny Machado, Chris Tillman, Chris Davis, Matt Wieters, Hanley Ramirez, Dwight Gooden, and Kasey Kahne. Multiple team baseballs are in the mix as well and will include several signed by this year's Frederick Keys.

Baseballs will be availible while supplies last and can be purchased on the concourse. There is no limit on how many mystery balls fans can buy. For those interested in trading, there will be a swapping area located in the courtyard.

Keys ticket plans are on sale, while each plan comes with the choice of a Zach Britton or Kevin Gausman bobblehead. For more information, contact an account manager at 301-815-9900. Individual game tickets go on sale April 3 at 10 am.

The Frederick debut of “Sing For the Cure, a Proclamation of Hope”

Our organization, One God ~One Voice (OG~OV), a community ecumenical choir will be presenting the Frederick debut of “Sing For the Cure, a Proclamation of Hope” on Saturday, June 6 at the Evangelical Reformed UCC Church in Frederick as a fund-raising effort for The Anne-Lynn Gross Breast Cancer Resource Center located at Frederick Community College. “Sing For the Cure” was originally composed for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  Anne Lynn, “The Singing Auctioneer”, was a well known member of Frederick’s business community, a philanthropist, a performer with the Chorale, and one of the founding members of OG~OV.  Once she was diagnosed with cancer more than 10 years ago, she became a tireless advocate for those similarly affected, as well as devoting her life to cancer research. Sadly, we lost Anne-Lynn last fall.We are seeking financial support from the Frederick community to support the presentation of our performance, in order that all proceeds from attendees can go to Anne Lynn’s Resource Center. As a supporter, you will be listed in our performance program as a Bronze ($1 - $50), Silver ($51 - $100) or Gold (+$100) contributor.  Can we count on your help? We are a registered 501(c) 3 charitable organization, so all donations are tax deductible. If you have questions, please feel free to contact David Cutler, OG~OV president by calling 301-371-6232 or by emailing him at d.l.cutler@comcast.net

Ovarian Cancer Walk

This year the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) Frederick Chapter will be hosting their 2nd annual 5K Walk to Break The Silence on Ovarian Cancer in Baker Park, 121 Bentz Street Frederick, MD. on June 20, 2015 at 9am. Our walk is sponsored by Cancer Care & Infusion Center of Frederick and Mt. Airy, Frederick Regional Health System and Maryland Title Center. It is inspiring and energizing day for ours survivors and a day to remember and pay tribute to those we have lost to the disease. Last year, we expected 150 participants and to raise $20,000. We were amazed by the immense community support as we had over 530 walkers and raised $75,000 for awareness and research for a cure.

Ovarian cancer is referred to as the "silent killer" as it has vague signs and symptoms and it's usually diagnosed at a late stage when prognosis is poor. Frightening but true - this year, 21,980 women will recieve a new ovarian cancer diagnosis. According to the American Cancer Society, when ovarian cancer is found early at a localized stage, the survival rate of patients who live longer than 5 years is 90%. Did you know that the Pap test does not detect Ovarian Cancer? Many women don't know this and currently there is no test to detect ovarian cancer. Some of the signs of ovarian cancer include bloating, eating and feeling full quickly, abdominal pain and trouble with urination. If these symptoms persist consistently for 2 or more weeks, you should see your gynecologist.

We walk to raise funds but mainly we walk to raise awareness of this deadly disease. Breast cancer advocates have done a wonderful job of awareness and we are hoping to make the Teal ribbon and what it stands for better known to all women.
