 RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES

Brief Description of Activity
1. Establishment of training programs designed to enable station personnel to acquire skills that could qualify them for higher level positions.

Establishment of a mentoring program for station personnel.

Manning Broadcasting Inc. provides training to current employees involved in the traffic, programming and promotions department which enables them to gain specific skills needed for promotion.

A “Street Team” Promotion employee was given training for an air shift.  She now has a regular weekend shift on Key 103.

Another “Street Team” employee has been trained and mentored and is now Assistant Promotions Director.

Afternoon Drive personality on WWEG was mentored and trained to take on the role of Assistant Program Director of WARK-AM.

Morning Drive Co-Host on WAFY-FM was trained and mentored and has become Music Director of WAFY-FM.

Mid-Day Personality on WWEG was trained and mentored to become Music Director of WWEG HD2.

WWEG-FM Morning Show Co-Host was trained and mentored to become Music Director of WWEG-FM.

2. Internship program designed to assist students in acquiring skills needed for employment in radio broadcasting industry. Manning Broadcasting Inc. has one intern from Liberty University receive academic credit while learning about station operations and the radio industry in general. Interns receive experience and instruction in the following areas:

·       Promotional duties of radio personnel.

·       Marketing proposals & promotions.

·       Integrating with sales.

·       Record labels and music scheduling.

·       Creating radio listenership, including discussions about cume, time spent listening & other metrics.

·       Event Management.

·       Production & Copywriting.

·       Programming Concepts.

·       On-Air and creating their own air checks.

 

3. Participation in other activities designed by the station reasonably calculated to further the goal of disseminating information as to opportunities in broadcasting. On March 29, 2018, Brian Corson who does Afternoon Drive on 106.9 The Eagle participated in a Career Fair at Urbana Middle School. He spoke about their positions both on and off the air, the various career opportunities in the broadcasting industry and how one can get into the industry.

In November of 2017, Barbara Smith, Promotions Director, spoke to students in the Frederick High School Linking Youth to New Experiences (LYNX) students about careers in the radio industry.

In October of 2017, Production Director, Greg Daniels, attended the FCPS Career & Technology Center Open House from the radio and television studios at the Center between 6pm and 8pm. Greg was on hand to discuss careers in radio with attendees.

On April 17, 2018, WAFY-FM Morning Show Hosts, Tommy and Jenna Lee, participated in a Career Fair at Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School. They spoke about their positions both on and off the air and the various career opportunities in the broadcasting industry.

 

4. Participation in other activities designed by the station reasonably calculated to further the goal of disseminating information as to opportunities in broadcasting. In November of 2017, Greg Daniels, Production Director at Manning Broadcasting Inc., helped judge a “Skills Radio Contest” through the Frederick County Public Schools Career and Technology Center.  Greg provided valuable feedback to the teacher and students regarding content, audio levels and production value of their submissions based on the criteria supplied.
5. Hosted a virtual job fair with organizations in the business and professional community. On May 23, 2018, Manning Broadcasting Inc. created a virtual job fair with links from all of our station sites to a Manning Media Career page. Manning Broadcasting provided live on air promotion, email blasts and social media exposure to help promote the job fair and also used it to advertise for an Account Executive.
 6.  Provided training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring equal opportunity and preventing discrimination. In May of 2018, Fred Manning, President and COO, met with Chris Elliott, Brand Manager and Larry Viehmeyer, Director of Sales and reviewed important and relevant sections of the The FCC’s Equal Employment Opportunity Rules and Policies – A Guide for Broadcasters as it related to their recruitment of station personnel as well as important outreach initiatives. The Guide was provided by our FCC attorney, Pillsbury.
