Aerosmith - Joe Perry

Aerosmith & ZZ Top played Nissan Pavillion June 21, 2009

I went backstage and talked to guitar god, Joe Perry before the show.

Calling Joe Perry "cool" is like thinking Marilyn Monroe was just pretty ... it was an awsome experience.

We talked about sports, music and since it was Fathers Day, I asked him about his family.

Intersting thing about rock legends, in many ways they're a lot like us now.  He said his sons were in a band, and their music is one of the things he says he listens to on his iPod.

I asked him about what he's been doing lately and he's getting ready to release a solo album later this Summer. "It's going to be a straight ahead rock record," he said while he smoked on a mini cigar. (Which he immediately put out when his wife entered the room. See even rock stars answer to their wives)

I asked if it was going to be bluesy? He said, "...No, much harder ... sounds kinda like the old Faces." (Referring of course to Rod Stewarts old band featuring Ron Wood on guitar, who later joined the Rolling Stones).

He said he's taking fans suggestions from Twitter for the title of the album.

If it's called Grip It & Rip It, then I know he liked my idea!

He's a sports fan and said he really liked playing to an NFL audience a few years ago.

Here's Joes talking about it:

Our Promo girl Nicky was there with me (thanks for taking the photos!) and minutes before this was taken, Steven Tyler stepped into the room. I was so focused on listening to Joe's answers that I totally missed it.

Nicky says his mouth scares her ...

I asked him about his favorite era with Aerosmith; Pump, Permanent Vacation?

Here's what he had to say:

I also asked him about what he thought of the Guitar Hero, since he's a guitarist ... did he think it was cool that kids were just playing the video game and not actually trying to jam out on a real guitar?
