Kym's Bio

I'm Kym McKay and I am the midday host here at 106.9 The Eagle which means I get to keep you company during the Commercial Free Workday from 9 until noon and then launch into the Classic Cafe at noon and play all your requests. This also means I have the best job on the radio! Thanks for making us a part of your workday!

I grew up in Aspen Hill in Montgomery County and moved up here in 2004. I love the Mid-Atlantic! I love living in the mountains, being a quick a hop from the beach and having quick access to history/art/culture in DC and Baltimore. Love it! I went to the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD. I'm pretty sure I still have the same hair and makeup style as I did back then...maybe just a little less poofy. I was a total metal chick of the 80's and much to my parents dismay, I frequented Hammerjack's in Baltimore. Saw a LOT of great concerts there. Been working on the radio since 1993 and have been pretty lucky to have some great jobs along the way. Been with the Eagle since 2007 and hope to be here for another 20 years!

So here's a quick Top 10 questions and answers about me...

1.) I get asked all the time what my favorite band is. The answer usually begins with the question "from what era?" I love all types of music. The older I get, the more I appreciate the musicianship that's gone into the classic hits we play on the Eagle. But I also love the blues, dance music, old-school hip hop, heavy metal and big band music. My iPhone has a huge variety of songs on it.

2.) Favorite Eagle artists? Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Van Halen (DLR-fronted VH)

3.) Favorite food(s)? A lot! And it shows. Ha-ha. I love to eat. If I had to take 3 things with me to a deserted island they would be steak, cake and bourbon.

4.) Biggest pet peeve? OMG...too many to list. In fact, I'm about 4 more pet peeves away from being Clint Eastwood and telling everyone to get off my lawn.

5.) Greatest achievement? My son. I'm so proud of the young man he's becoming. Parenting is a labor of love. Anyone can be a Mom or Dad but it take true dedication and commitment and self-sacrifice to be a parent.

6.) What do I like to do? Travel! I wish I could do more of it. I like to go to movies with my kiddo. The whole theatre experience is fun and just not the same at home no matter how big a TV you have. I spend too much time on Facebook. Need to remedy that. And I love going to museums and exhibits and monuments and anything of historical note.

7.) Favorite movies? Shawshank Redemption; Forrest Gump; The Blind Side; Elf; and every one of the Harry Potter movies (just to name a few)

8.) Favorite books? I like John Grisham novels, all the Harry Potter books, any mystery/thriller novels. I prefer getting lost in a good fiction novel over a business book or non-fiction novel.

9.) Favorite TV shows? I was a Lost and Seinfeld junkie at one point. I love The Office and have recently become quite enamored with The Big Bang Theory. And shamefully, I pretty much watch every reality show on Bravo TV.

10.) Pets? My boyfriend's cat Baxter who is awesome. I like dogs but I'm totally a cat person. Right now though, I'm enjoying being a non-pet owner. They're so much work and I have enough keeping me busy these days.  I have 4,237 pictures of Baxter sleeping, Baxter eating, Baxter being cute and Baxter yawning on my iPhone so tread carefully if you ever ask me to show you a picture of Baxter because we could be there awhile.  :)
